WPNA 1490 AM, went on the air May 1, 1987, under the ownership of the Polish National Alliance. The stations history however spans all the way back to 1951, when a license to broadcast on 1490 AM, from Oak Park, was granted by the FCC, under the call sign WEBS. |

Not long after going on the air the call sign was changed to WOPA, reflecting the location (to this very day) of the stations studios, offices & antenna, the Oak Park Arms Hotel, now a senior citizens retirement community.
In 1984, the call sign once again changed, this time to WBMX, for 3 short years until 1490 AM, was purchased by the PNA, and became WPNA. |

1490 AM, has enjoyed much success throughout the majority of it's many years on the air with an ethnic brokered format featuring the many different cultures of Chicagoland.
With a solid line-up of "Polish" programming WPNA, is also a leading source for "Polka" broadcasts in the area. Now in 2006, on the Internet, you can experience what people in the windy city have long known…
