WPNA 1490 AM, went on the air May 1, 1987, under the ownership of the Polish National Alliance. The stations history however spans all the way back to 1951, when a license to broadcast on 1490 AM, from Oak Park, was granted by the FCC, under the call sign WEBS.

Not long after going on the air the call sign was changed to WOPA, reflecting the location (to this very day) of the stations studios, offices and antenna, the Oak Park Arms Hotel, now a senior citizens retirement community.

In 1984, the call sign once again changed, this time to WBMX, for 3 short years until 1490 AM, was purchased by the PNA, and became WPNA.

1490 AM, has enjoyed much success throughout the majority of it's many years on the air with an ethnic brokered format featuring the many different cultures of Chicagoland.

With a solid line-up of "Polish" programming WPNA, is also a leading source for "Polka" broadcasts in the area. Now in 2008, on the Internet, you can experience what people in the windy city have long known…

WPNA 1490 AM, is Chicagoland's International Choice.
